Introduction to libidn2

libidn2 is a package designed for internationalized string handling based on standards from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)'s IDN working group, designed for internationalized domain names.

Development versions of GLFS may not build or run some packages properly if LFS or dependencies have been updated since the most recent stable versions of the books.

Installation of libidn2

Install libidn2 by running the following commands:

./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-static &&
make

To test the results, issue: make check.

Now, as the root user:

make install

Command Explanations

--disable-static: This switch prevents installation of static versions of the libraries.

--enable-gtk-doc: Use this parameter if GTK-Doc is installed and you wish to rebuild and install the API documentation.

32-bit Installation of lib32-libidn2

First clean the directory by running the following command:

make distclean

Install lib32-libidn2 by running the following commands:

CC="gcc -m32" CXX="g++ -m32"         \
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib32/pkgconfig \
./configure --prefix=/usr            \
            --libdir=/usr/lib32      \
            --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu \
            --disable-static &&

make

Now as the root user:

make DESTDIR=$PWD/DESTDIR install
cp -vr DESTDIR/usr/lib32/* /usr/lib32
rm -rf DESTDIR
ldconfig
